BELT TRAVEL SAFETY GUIDE
⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING ⚠️
Unauthorized Belt travel is illegal. Penalties include imprisonment (2-10 years), permanent travel restrictions, and possible use of force by Authority patrols.
Authority has killed civilians attempting Belt crossing. This guide does not encourage illegal activity. It provides information for harm reduction.
Understand all risks before making any decisions.
This guide provides information about Belt travel for educational purposes. Each person must make their own informed decisions about risk.
UNDERSTANDING THE BELT
What the Authority Says:
"Belt regions remain heavily contaminated from catastrophe. Exposure causes respiratory failure, neurological damage, and death within days. Human habitation is impossible. Travel forbidden."
Reality (Based on Leaked Reports & Testimony):
- 87% of Belt regions show NO elevated contamination (safe for human habitation)
- 11% show minor contamination (safe with basic precautions)
- Only 2% are actually hazardous
- 50,000+ people live in Belt settlements (healthy populations)
- Children born in Belt are healthy (no birth defects from "contamination")
The "contamination" story is largely false. The Belt is mostly habitable.

REAL DANGERS OF BELT TRAVEL
Belt travel IS dangerous - but not because of contamination:
DANGER #1: Authority Enforcement
Most serious risk. Authority patrols Belt regions:
- Aerial surveillance (drones, helicopters)
- Ground patrols near Protected Zone borders
- Checkpoint enforcement at unofficial crossing points
If caught:
- Imprisonment: 2-10 years
- Permanent travel restrictions
- Possible use of force (Authority has killed Belt travelers)
DANGER #2: Lack of Infrastructure
Belt regions have minimal infrastructure:
- No hospitals or emergency medical care
- No phone service in most areas
- Limited clean water sources
- No power grid
- Damaged roads, unsafe structures
Medical emergency in Belt = potential death. No 911. No ambulance.
DANGER #3: Actual Environmental Hazards
While most Belt is safe, real hazards exist:
- 2% of Belt IS genuinely contaminated
- Unstable damaged buildings
- Wildlife (bears, wolves in some regions)
- Extreme weather exposure
- Difficult terrain
DANGER #4: Getting Lost
Belt regions are vast, unmarked:
- No GPS in most areas
- No road signs
- Easy to become disoriented
- No rescue services if lost
DANGER #5: Supply Depletion
Running out of food/water/supplies:
- No stores or supply points
- Must carry everything needed
- Underestimating needs = life-threatening situation
Belt travel is dangerous - primarily because of Authority enforcement and lack of infrastructure, not contamination.
IF SOMEONE IS CONSIDERING BELT TRAVEL
Reasons people consider Belt travel:
- Cannot afford checkpoint fees ($1,250 per crossing)
- Denied multiple times at checkpoints
- Emergency situation, can't wait for permit processing
- Want to reach Belt settlement
- Escaping Authority control
Before making this decision, understand:
- This is illegal - 2-10 year imprisonment if caught
- Authority uses force - People have been killed
- No emergency services - Medical emergency likely fatal
- No easy turningback - Once in Belt, committed to crossing
- High failure rate - Many attempted crossings fail
Alternatives to consider:
- Appeal checkpoint denial
- Reapply with additional documentation
- Seek legal assistance with checkpoint issues
- Use video communication instead of physical travel
- Wait for better circumstances
Belt travel should be absolute last resort after exhausting all legal options.
HARM REDUCTION INFORMATION
If someone decides to attempt Belt travel despite risks, this information may reduce harm:
PREPARATION (Weeks Before)
Physical Preparation:
- Get in good physical condition (Belt crossing is strenuous)
- Practice hiking with weighted pack
- Learn basic wilderness survival skills
- Take first aid training
Route Planning:
- Research intended route thoroughly
- Identify water sources along route
- Note potential shelter locations
- Understand terrain type
- Calculate realistic travel time (usually 2-3x longer than map distance suggests)
Supply Planning:
- Calculate water needs (1 gallon per day minimum)
- Plan food for journey + 50% extra
- Prepare medical supplies
- Test all equipment before departure
SUPPLIES (What to Carry)
Essential Supplies:
- Water: 1+ gallon per day of travel, water purification tablets/filter
- Food: High-calorie, lightweight, non-perishable
- Shelter: Tent or tarp, sleeping bag rated for season
- Clothing: Weather-appropriate, layers, rain gear, sturdy boots
- Navigation: Physical maps (no GPS), compass
- First aid: Comprehensive kit, personal medications
- Fire: Waterproof matches, lighter, fire starter
- Tools: Multi-tool, knife, rope
- Light: Flashlight, extra batteries
Weight Limit:
- Maximum pack weight: 25-30% of body weight
- Heavier = slower, more exhausting, higher failure risk
- Prioritize essentials
TIMING
Best Seasons:
- Spring (April-May): Moderate temperatures, water sources flowing
- Fall (September-October): Moderate temperatures, still warm enough
Avoid:
- Summer (June-August): Extreme heat, dehydration risk
- Winter (November-March): Cold exposure, snow, extremely dangerous
Travel During:
- Night: Reduces Authority detection risk (thermal imaging less effective)
- Poor weather: Reduces aerial surveillance (drones/helicopters grounded)
AVOIDING AUTHORITY DETECTION
Authority patrol patterns:
- Heaviest near Protected Zone borders (first 20 miles into Belt)
- Aerial patrols during daylight hours
- Ground patrols on known routes
- Lower enforcement deep in Belt (50+ miles from zones)
Detection avoidance:
- Travel at night when possible
- Avoid known routes, use irregular paths
- Stay in tree cover when available (blocks aerial view)
- No fires during day (smoke visible)
- Listen for helicopter/drone sounds (take cover immediately)
- If spotted, compliance may be safer than flight (use judgment)
DURING TRAVEL
Daily Priorities:
- Water: Locate and purify water daily
- Shelter: Secure shelter before dark
- Calories: Eat sufficient food to maintain energy
- Navigation: Track progress, verify location
- Safety: Monitor for Authority patrols, environmental hazards
Warning Signs to Turn Back:
- Running low on water with no source ahead
- Injuries that impair travel
- Illness (especially gastrointestinal from contaminated water)
- Lost with no way to reorient
- Weather becoming dangerous
- Heavy Authority patrol activity
Pride is not worth your life. Turn back if conditions become untenable.
REACHING BELT SETTLEMENTS
Some travelers aim to reach Belt settlements rather than crossing to opposite Protected Zone.
Known settlements (approximate locations withheld for security):
- New Haven: Former Colorado region, 2,400 residents
- Iron Creek: Former agricultural region, 1,300 residents
- Freehold: Former Montana region, 900 residents
- Riverside: Near river system, 1,100 residents
Contacting settlements:
- Exact locations kept secret (Authority surveillance)
- Some settlements have "runners" who help guide travelers
- Contact methods exist but require trusted introduction
- Contact Elena for vetted settlement connections (use encryption)
What settlements offer:
- Housing (self-built)
- Food (agricultural/livestock)
- Community
- Freedom from Authority control
- Safety (large settlements rarely raided)
What settlements require:
- Work contribution (typically 20 hours/week community service)
- Following settlement rules
- Acceptance of harder lifestyle (no modern conveniences)
- Commitment (can't easily return to Protected Zones)

IF CAUGHT BY AUTHORITY
If Authority patrol detects you in Belt:
Your options:
- Compliance:
- Stop immediately when ordered
- Put hands up, show you're unarmed
- Follow all instructions
- Result: Arrest, imprisonment 2-10 years, but you're alive
- Flight:
- Attempt to escape if you believe you can evade
- Authority may use force
- Risk: Injury or death
- Success rate: Very low if aerial surveillance involved
If arrested:
- You have right to remain silent (use it)
- Request legal representation
- Do not admit intent to reach settlement (increases sentence)
- State you were attempting to cross for family emergency (may reduce sentence)
- Document any rights violations for later legal use
Authority has killed civilians attempting Belt crossing. Compliance may be safer than flight, but this is individual judgment call in the moment.
BELT CONTAMINATION TESTING
If you want to verify Authority's contamination claims yourself:
Low-risk testing method:
- Enter Belt region near Protected Zone border (1-2 miles)
- Spend 24-48 hours in Belt environment
- Monitor for claimed symptoms:
- Respiratory distress
- Neurological issues
- Skin lesions
- If symptoms appear: Return immediately to medical care
- If no symptoms: Authority contamination claims are questionable
Authority claims Belt exposure causes symptoms "within days." 48 hours with no symptoms disproves this.
This is still illegal and carries arrest risk. But shorter duration = lower detection risk and easier to claim you got lost rather than intentional Belt travel.
FOR FAMILY MEMBERS
If someone you know is considering Belt travel:
DO:
- Ensure they understand all risks
- Help them prepare thoroughly if decision is final
- Know their planned route (in case rescue needed)
- Agree on check-in method if possible
- Have plan for if they're arrested (legal representation, bail)
DON'T:
- Report them to Authority (increases danger)
- Share their plans with others (surveillance risk)
- Attempt to physically stop them (may rush preparation)
If they don't return:
- Wait at least 2 weeks before assuming problem
- Check Authority arrest records
- Contact Belt settlement networks (if you have access)
- Contact Elena - may be able to help locate them
FINAL WARNING
⚠️ READ THIS CAREFULLY ⚠️
Belt travel is:
- ILLEGAL (2-10 years imprisonment)
- DANGEROUS (Authority uses force, has killed civilians)
- DIFFICULT (no infrastructure, no rescue services)
- HIGH FAILURE RATE (many attempts fail, some fatal)
This guide exists for harm reduction, not encouragement.
Exhaust ALL legal options before considering Belt travel.
If you choose Belt travel despite risks, prepare thoroughly and understand you may not survive.
Your life matters more than proving a point about contamination or escaping checkpoints.
I've documented dozens of Belt crossing attempts. Some succeeded. Some failed. Some died.
The Belt isn't as dangerous as Authority claims - but Belt travel IS dangerous.
Contamination is mostly false. But Authority enforcement is real. People have been killed.
I've written this guide because people will attempt crossings regardless. If this information saves one life, it's worth publishing.
But I want to be clear: Belt travel should be last resort.
Try legal options first. Appeal denials. Reapply. Use video communication. Wait.
Only consider Belt travel if you've exhausted everything else and truly have no alternative.
And if you do attempt it: Prepare thoroughly. Understand the risks. Tell someone your route.
Come back alive.
