THEIR STORY

Lin Chen was sick. She needed specialist medical treatment only available in Zone 14. The family had waited three months for travel permits. Everything was legitimate. Everything was in order.

When Inspector Isabella Jean reviewed their documents at North Ribbon Checkpoint, she claimed Mei's ID "looked wrong." Mei asked what was wrong with it. Jean refused to explain. Just denied them and told them to leave.

Thomas approached Jean one final time. Explained his daughter needed medical help. Asked what they needed to fix. Jean looked at Lin - a seven-year-old child who could barely stand - and said: "Should have thought of that before bringing fraudulent documents."

Moments later, Jean gave the order: "Clear them. Lethal force authorized."

Mei and Lin were shot in the first volley. They died instantly, falling in front of Thomas.

FROM THOMAS CHEN:

"Lin didn't even scream. One moment she was asking about the doctor. The next she was on the ground. My wife tried to shield her but it was too late. They were both gone.

I don't remember running. I don't remember hiding. The next thing I remember is kneeling over their bodies after the shooting stopped. Begging them to wake up. Knowing they wouldn't.

Isabella Jean walked past me while I was holding my dead daughter. She was checking documents on corpses. She stepped over my wife's body without looking down.

My family died because they needed medical care and Isabella Jean decided their documents 'looked wrong.' That's it. That's the whole reason. A seven-year-old child murdered for having a sick parent who dared to ask questions."

LIN CHEN - AGE 7

Lin loved drawing. Her father says she wanted to be an artist when she grew up. She drew pictures of cities she'd never seen, places she hoped to visit someday.

She never got to visit Zone 14. She never got to see the specialist. She never got to grow up.

She was shot at a checkpoint, murdered by Authority guards following Isabella Jean's orders.

MEI CHEN - AGE 36

Mei was a teacher before the crossing restrictions made her profession illegal (unauthorized education in unapproved zones). She spent her last three years caring for Lin, trying to keep her daughter alive long enough to reach medical treatment.

She died trying to protect Lin. Shot in front of her husband and child. Her last words were "Please, my daughter needs medical help."

Isabella Jean's response was bullets.

THOMAS CHEN - SURVIVOR

Thomas lives in a Belt settlement now. He can never return to protected zones - the Authority would kill him for speaking out. But he speaks out anyway.

"I owe it to them. Mei and Lin died for nothing except Isabella Jean's cruelty. I won't let them be forgotten. I won't let the Authority pretend this was justified. My family was murdered. Everyone needs to know that."
